Well it is getting hot. I played a couple of times in July and it was 100 degrees.

We are working hard on the reworking of View from the Fringe.  We are excited about the new direction and design.

Last week I played at Meadowlands Golf Club. I got off to one of my best starts in a while going birdie, birdie, birdie, par, birdie, par, birdie. Five under through the first seven! Wow! Then I woke up and pared the last 11 holes in a row. Lesson: Keep in the moment one shot at a time.

Saw Bubba Watson out there. I haven’t seen him in since we were jrs. competing. It is awesome to see him winning and playing well. When we were kids he used to wear pink socks and promptly win everything he played in. Nice guy and great talent. Keep up with him on Twitter at @bubbawatson.

I haven’t kept up with equipment too much. I wonder if they will announce the igolf? Yep, it is Apple’s newest product launch on the heels of the recently unveiled ipad.

The new device actually allows you to swing like Fred Couples, Jonathan Byrd, or Michele Wei depending on which app you download. The putting app produces a Mutual of Omaha putting line on the green which makes it easier to line up putts.

Ok, just kidding.

Golf is a game of variables. Lower your scores and handicap by minimizing these variables and simplifying the execution of each shot you hit.

What are some of the ways you simplify the game?

Often, I get asked what is in my bag. I just started playing golf again after a seven year sabbatical, so cut me some slack. Golf equipment has come a long way in such a short time. Last time I was outfitted with a new set, golfers thought wearing braided belts was cool and people still downloaded songs from Napster. I ‘d like to know, what’s in your bag?

Earlier today I was conversing with a friend of mine, Mike, about him buying a new driver. He was asking me about the variables he may need to consider to find the best driver. Your best bet is to seek out the help of your local PGA pro to assist you. If you don’t have access to one, than hopefully the recommendations I gave him will help you.

• Find a clubhead you like the look of. Not necessarily the one your favorite tour player is hitting but a driver that is pleasing to your eye as you address the ball.
• Look for a demo day or outdoor range that has demos in that clubhead. Your large golf retail stores usually will have a golf simulator that will serve as a second option. I prefer an outdoor range so I can see the ball flight.
• They will most likely have multiple variations of shafts, lofts, lies, length, and head design.  Hit all of them several times.
• Use process of elimination to determine the right “specs” that feel the best and give your desired ball flight and trajectory.

I believe you will be surprised that the driver you pick may not be what you thought you needed. Again, I recommend the aid of a PGA professional to help you in your quest. Have fun with the  process and you’ll be bombing it down the fairway past your buddies in no time.
