About View from the Fringe:
Golf, unlike most sports, is enjoyed for most of our lives. It can take us to some of the most beautiful places in the world and introduce us to some of the most fascinating people. Here we share those experiences and lessons to other golfers and lovers of the game. We will discuss tips to improve your game, course and tournament reviews, and opinions about the game and golf world.
Our goal and hope is that you hang out with us, learn a few things, and have fun interacting with golfers from around the world.
David Horne is native to coastal NC and grew up playing every sport he could get his feet or hands on. By his mid teens, David had grown a passionate love for golf- not just playing the game but the history, people, techniques, lifestyle, and values associated with it. He was fortunate to play collegiate golf at Greensboro College and win a NCAA national championship in 2000. After college, David played various mini-tours including PGA Tour Q School. In addition to playing, he was a golf instructor in Greensboro NC, with Precision Golf school. David left the golf business in 2003 to pursue several entrepreneurial ventures. After a six year sabbatical from competitive golf, he regained his amateur status in the summer of 2008. Now, David runs a business solutions firm based in High Point, NC and is a principal of Golf Moncle.
Kevin O’Connell grew up in Lexington, VA only a half mile from the local country club. He starting playing golf at age 5 and played his first state tournament at age 11. Through high school Kevin realized he had a strong passion for the game and had aspirations of making a career out of golf. He chose to play his collegiate golf at Greensboro College where he won the Division III Individual National Championship in 2000 and lead his alma mater to the team title. He went on to win two more times in college and earn First Team All-America honors twice and represent the US in the US vs. Japan Intercollegiate Championships played in Japan. Since graduating in 2002, Kevin has pursued a career in professional golf. He has played on several mini tours throughout the US and had the opportunity to play golf courses all over the country. Kevin is currently receiving instruction from Greg Labelle of the Butch Harmon School of Golf and is a member of Shady Oaks Country Club in Fort Worth, TX.
Brandon Pace was born in Kinston, NC, and raised in Morehead City, NC. Brandon developed a love for golf and basketball at an early age, thanks, in large part, to his father and two older brothers, with whom he would regularly play. His love for golf soon became obsession. After high school golf Brandon played for East Carolina University, but not before serving as a missionary for his church for two years in Oregon. Since graduating from college, Brandon worked as an Assistant PGA Professional at two courses in eastern NC, where he had the opportunity to continue to compete, as well as teach the game in a variety of circumstances. Since leaving the golf business, Brandon has worked in sales and management and currently resides in Alpine, Utah.
Tony Piparo has recently returned to the Greensboro, NC area after having lived in Southern California and the United Kingdom. He has a Masters in Kinesiology and Ph.D. in Sport Psychology, having received the American Psychological Association’s Dissertation of the Year Award for his thesis, Effects of Fitness on Concentration and Performance in Golf. He has played competitively, both as an amateur and professional, served as Head Pro at two golf facilities in the Triad area and now assists golfers eliminate performance anxiety from their game so they can play to their potential more often and achieve their dream goals. He also works with athletes of all ages and ability levels, business professionals, students, performing artists, and people with everday issues overcome the debilitating effects of stress and anxiety.
