It is Decision time for Mr. Pavin

Decisions! Decsions! Corey Pavin has important choices to make.

All eyes will be on him Tuesday, as he completes his squad for the Ryder Cup. Last week Brandon Pace wrote about Tiger and the Ryder Cup. I love the point he makes concerning the number of wins for the European side but match play is a different animal. It is all about match up and playing your opponent. In medal play the field plays against the course. Match play in golf is like a tennis grand slam. With this in mind, Pavin must look at how his players match up against Montgomerie’s squad. He also needs to look at who has momentum and experience playing that format.

If I were Corey Pavin my picks would be:

Tiger Woods- Um, because he is one of the best competitors ever.

Zack Johnson- Playing well and his type of game fits most any partner

Rickie Fowler- Last year was the youngest player ever on the Walker Cup and led to the US to victory last year going 4-0 (He is fearless and may be the next Lanny Wadkins).

Anthony Kim- Not his best year, but his last Ryder Cup performance showed us the event brought out the best in him.

There are many good players and Pavin can’t go wrong with any of the players in the top 30. If you were captain who would be your picks?

Picking Tiger is like buying a Harley Davidson. You are going for the name only, no substance.

Dave, I appreciate you stopping by. You don’t think he should be picked? He is not my favorite player but he will be an asset on the team.
